Meerkat Class - Reception Class

Welcome to Meerkat Class

Your teacher this year is Mrs Norman.

Other adults who regularly provide support in class are Mrs Payne and Miss Wren.

On a Thursday Mrs Webb will be teaching.

Our PE afternoon is a Thursday.

Homework Expectation:

There are no homework expectations for reception, but it would greatly benefit the children if they read at home at least five times a week. This doesn’t always have to be the book sent home but any books the children find interesting.

Reading to your children is an important way to help them build language skills. It exposes them to new words and ways of using language. It also helps them learn general information about the world, making learning about new subjects at school easier.

Classroom Learning

Continuous Provision:

In Reception the children learn through continuous. Continuous provision allows children the freedom to explore and become independent learners. 'Continuous Provision' refers to the resources and areas laid out in the classroom. The areas are laid out to provoke learning through play and exploration. The resources are freely accessible to the children in the school during any designated 'Explore' time.

Drawing Club:

Drawing Club is an approach designed by Greg Bottrill. The idea is to fully immerse children into a world full of imagination. At Thomas Eaton Primary Academy we fully embrace drawing club and can see the joy and excitement it brings to our children. Drawing Club is based upon the 3M principle. These are making conversation, mark making, and mathematics. Every week we focus on a book and then encourage the children to explore, draw, chat, and think about the book. We chat about the characters, and the setting and discuss some new language and words from the book. At the end of the week, we always have a ‘What if’ day. This is a day when we discuss other endings to the book.

Maths:

The children learn a lot of their maths through continuous provision. We enhance this learning using ‘White Rose education’ and ‘NCTEM - Maths Mastery’

Phonics:

At Thomas Eaton Primary Academy we follow the ‘Little Wandle’ phonics scheme.
