Autumn Term
December
Drawing Club:
This November, the books we have explored in drawing club are 'The Christmas Show', 'The First Christmas Story', and 'The Best Present Ever'.
Maths:
In maths, we have been looking at repeating patterns. By identifying patterns, children start to understand basic mathematical concepts such as numbers, shapes, and the relationships between them. Through understanding patterns, children learn to make predictions, understand what comes next, make logical connections, and use reasoning skills. We have also been looking at representing quantities in differently, including showing amounts on 1 hand. We have also been focusing on the symbolic representation of numbers and their recognition of numerals to 1-5.
Meerkat class has been playing a game matching numerals to correct quantities. Playing games with dice and number lines enhances the children’s understanding of the order of numbers and allows them to link the numbers with quantities.
Phonics:
The children's phonics skills are continuously improving. This term we have started to explore digraph sounds. A digraph is when two letters make one sound. The children also have many tricky words that they are now remembering!
Continuous provision:
This term we are focusing on 'The you'ness of you'. We are encouraging the children to think about who they are as a person, their likes and dislikes as well as what they look like.
This December we have turned our roleplay area into a Christmas home including a Christmas tree. The children have been acting out the night before Christmas and pretending to be Father Christmas.
In the maths area, we have been focusing on repeating patterns. The children have started to create their own repeating pattern using the different loose part resources available.
This term Meerkat class has taken part in our Christmas nativity. The children worked so hard and all sang so beautifully.

This term we have started to think about different jobs and what we might want to be when we grow up. Following on from the children's interest we have set up our role-play area into a doctor's surgery. The children have been outing out their own life experiences.
The children have also enjoyed the change in weather. Their main focus this term has been creating kites. They have been using different resources and materials to create kites. We have looked at how kites are made and thought about the resources we need to create a kite that will fly.

We have also been working on subitising. We can now subitise numbers 1-4. We can do this with images, objects, and audibly.
Phonics:
As well as these phonic sounds s, a, t, p, I, n, m, d, g, o, c, k we have now learnt ck, e, u, r, h, b, f and l.
Continuous provision:
This term we are focusing on 'The you'ness of you'. We are encouraging the children to think about who they are as a person, their likes and dislikes as well as what they look like. The children have started to create some amazing portraits of themselves, thinking about their eye colour and where their facial features are.
Following on from the children's interest we have started to experiment with what our bodies might be made up of. We have been looking at skeletons and thinking about all our different bones we have inside out bodies. The children have also been thinking about size and how we are all different sizes to each other.
