Fitzgerald

Welcome to the Fitzgerald Class Page

'Ella'- A Collaborative Art Project Completed by Fitzgerald Class

Here in Fitzgerald Class we take our name from one of the most famous American jazz singers of the twentieth century, Ella Fitzgerald. Born in 1917, Ella went on to inspire generations, including some our favourite modern singers.

This year our teacher is Mrs Johnson and we are lucky to be joined by Mrs Holmes and Mrs Chapman.

In our Classroom we have been...

Swan Lake

We have just returned from a fantastic trip to London, where we experienced the extravagance and opulence of the Royal Opera House. The class were transfixed watching an amazing performance of Swan Lake.

Skipping

  • At the beginning of the term Fitzgerald class had a skipping coaching session delivered by the 'Dan the Skipping Man' team. The children thoroughly enjoyed the session. To help develop and improve our skills - adults and children - we have a weekly challenge!

Homework

Reading

  • We continue to expect everyone to read for at least 20 minutes, five times a week.

  • Children have an Accelerated Reader book which is aimed at their most recent reading level, based on word recognition and comprehension.

  • Children are may need support reading some of these texts so we encourage adults or older siblings to read these to the children to promote reading for pleasure.

  • Children have a reading record book, to record when they read. This must be signed by someone at home.

Maths

  • We will be setting weekly Maths homework.
  • We recommend children spend five to ten minutes a day practising their times table knowledge. In school we have the superhero times table; this is a weekly quiz which focuses on multiplication and division knowledge

English

  • We will be setting weekly English homework.
  • English homework will be set every Friday, via Showbie.
  • Children have a week to complete the task.

Spellings

  • Spellings are set every Friday, on Showbie.
  • Spellings will continue to be taught throughout the week in class.
  • There is a spelling test every Friday, the main aim of this task is for the children to use the correct spelling pattern for the week.
