Summer Term
May/June
We participated in the 20Twenty Productions "Big Read & Write" online author event, where we were lucky enough to spend time with the amazing Sita Brahmachari (author of Artichoke Hearts). Sita explained how she is often inspired by the world around her and that she has keep diairies since she was a child. The class were guided through an inspirational garden, whilst they 'listen doodled' and are now keen to write their own poetry.
Below are a selection of doodle pages, completed during the session.
Now in their last term at primary school, Year 6 are starting to think about the next step in their learning journey. To support them in this transition process, the children participated in a "Moving up to Secondary School" workshop, hosted by the Fenland Mental Health Support Team. The children learnt about a number of tools they can use to help them as they move on.
Our PE this term looks a little different! Each week we will travel to our local swimming pool.
In science this term we are exploring forces. In our first lesson we reminded ourselves that friction is a force. After identifying instances in sports where friction is increased or decreased as much as possible, we undertook an experiment. Our equipment was simply a pair of chopsticks and some cubes of jelly. We started by picking the jelly cubes up with the chopsticks - we were successful because we identified there was a lot of friction. We decided to reduce this adding cooking oil and repeating the test!
We started the summer term by taking a imaginary trip to Mars! We researched the Mars Rovers that have explored the planet's surface, finding out what they have analysed and more importantly how they have transmitted this information back to Earth. To do this, we investigated and used binary code. We discovered it was a base-2 system and after using it to create numbers, we imagine we were astronauts stranded on Mars and our only way to communicate with earth was to write messages in code!
