World Book Day 2025!
World Book Day 2025!
It has been a busy week with lots of activities linked to reading.
We have read Terra Ultima and created our own hybrid creatures and used these for our character descriptions.
On top of this, we have created amazing diary poems with the poet / author Debra Bertulis focused on making the ordinary... EXTRAORDINARY! These were fantastic and all of the children performed them to the class, and a few performed them in assembly to the school too.
It doesn't stop there...
We have also had a Zoom call with author Laura Baker on the book 'The Full Stop That Got Away!' which was a superb and fun book to listen to and the children then drew along to create their own Frank full stops with different expressions.
To finish off a lovely day, we shared a book with children in Year 1 and they all enjoyed this.
It has been a fabulous day / week and everybody looked fantastic!
March
It has been a busy week back to this school with the children completing their assessments and then creating beautiful seasonal tarts in DT: Cooking.
They have all worked so hard, tried their best and been resilient so well done!
In Maths, we have started to look at money and the children have really taken to this unit with including addition, subtraction, word problems and visual aids such as bar models and part whole models.
It is World Book Day this Thursday and we have a full week of activities linked to promoting a love of reading.
In English, the will be designing a creature based on the book Terra Ultima: The discovery of a New Continent and then using these to write a character description.
On Thursday, we will also be joining a live Zoom call with Laura Baker, the author of The Full Stop That Got Away.
Overall, March is set to be fun, filled with learning and include a variety of hands-on experiences for the children to enjoy.
Cooking Seasonal Tarts
February
What an exciting start to February!
It has been a packed filled start with a trip to Flag Fen, our exciting write with instructions and making bird feeders and hedgehog feeders. We have also looked at contact and non-contact forces with friction, air resistance, gravity and magnetism. The children enjoyed exploring and experimenting within this topic!
The children have had a wonderful few weeks of learning and there is much more fun to come!
After half term, we are starting our cooking unit where we look at fruits and vegetables and where they grow based on their climate, seasonality, the affect this has on the environment and then they will be creating a tart based on these factors.
We will also be creating a double page spread to showcase our knowledge and learning from Flag Fen for display.
In Maths, we are beginning our unit on money which links brilliantly to the real world.
Overall, February has been and will continue to be fun, filled with learning and include a variety of hands-on experiences for the children to enjoy.
Flag Fen
We had a wonderful day at Flag Fen and the weather stayed dry!
We had lots of fun with activities such as:
- looking at Bronze Age roundhouses with a fire being lit in one
- attempting to spear a deer (wicker of course!)
- looking at a range of artefacts from the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age as well as some the Romans used
- creating a historical timeline
- creating stone art using natural resources like berries, chalk and charcoal
- making wattle and daub to experience what it would be like to construct houses back in time
- making their own clay pots
Overall, it was an activity-packed day and the children were fantastic and seemed to really enjoy themselves and learnt lots.

Happy New Year!
We have had an amazing start to the year!
Everybody has settled in wonderfully and enjoyed being creative in English and Art.
We have been looking at the Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch in English and whilst reading the story and looking at the plot points, we have also mad disgusting sandwiches and designed a basket that is seagull proof!
In Art, we have tie dyed fabrics, looked at concentric circles and focused on the work of Faith Ringgold.
They did a fantastic job and their hard work and focus has certainly paid off!
In Maths, we have moved on to fractions and they have taken it in their stride and are becoming experts at halving and doubling!
We have concluded our History unit on the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age and will consolidate this at Flag Fen on February 14th - we are all excited to be immersed into the past!
