Grafham Water Residential - Thursday 16th to Friday 17th January 2020
Forty three children set off Grafham Water bound ready for their adventure to begin. After arriving and having a tour of the centre, it was time to settle into their rooms for the night. Much excitement was had at deciding who was going to be sleeping in the top bunk and where clothes were going to be hung. As you can imagine, some rooms were tidier than others!
Then it was time to begin the activities. Archery, the climbing wall, power kiting and low ropes were the menu! All the children got involved and showed great determination. The smiles on their faces showed just how much fun they were having!
After tea, the children had the opportunity to take part in bush-craft activities, whereby they were warmed by the campfire where stories were told. Some children even contributed by making up their own stories which was great! Hot chocolate warmed us up as the damp, cold air was really starting to make us all feel chilly.
After a good nights sleep and a very early start, particularly for the girls, the activities continued. It would be fair to say that the ground was quite muddy and most of the children fell over at one point or another! However, they were all in high spirits and in fact, the muddier they got, the better!
All the staff that accompanied the children were very proud of them all for showing great strength of character, resilience and encouragement towards their peers. For some, it was the first time they had been away from home. What superstars! Many asked if they could do it all again.....watch this space!
