We began our term with a walk to the local park, studying our local area and comparing our park to Percy's park in the Percy and the Park Keeper stories. It was a brilliant morning for the children to bond together as a whole class. In the afternoon we used different resources including things we had gathered at the park to make our own designs of a park for Percy.
As part of our work on Pattan's Pumpkin by Chitra Soundar the children began the topic with 'A taste of India', and tried a range of different foods from the country. The poppadoms and naan breads went down very quickly and we showed our adventurous side by tasting pilau rice, samosas and onion bhajis. One child was even overheard to say, "I had these to eat last night."
Earlier this week we watched our class pumpkin being prepared for us to taste. There were lots of mixed reactions from the children at the tasting, with a few reaching our for seconds and others not so keen. Our pumpkin tasting was all part of the sensory experience ahead of our pumpkin poetry writing in English this week.
